The Peace Church and the Eastern Gothic Line Museum are located on the Trarivi promontory, in the current town of Montescudo Monte Colombo. Between 12 and 16 September 1944, there was fierce fighting between the Allies and the Germans there, which eventually destroyed the Church of St Peter located there.

The church of San Pietro in Trarivi was chosen as the site for a German artillery battery, as it dominated a large portion of the Conca Valley. This location was its misfortune. The church underwent a two-pronged attack from the Allies, at sea through a major cannonade carried by ships at anchor in front of the coast, accompanied by a simultaneous assault carried out by 45 tanks placed on the hill of Croce di Monte Colombo. The British soldiers then took over Trarivi and the hillock, whose ancient church had been stripped to ruins by their own shelling.

After two years of restoration that started in 1989 and was completed in September 1991, the Peace Church was opened with an initial version of the Museum of the Eastern Gothic Line next to it, which was later renovated in the mid-2000s.

At the opening, the veterans who fought in that battle donated a Peace Bell bearing the words 'War never again - Nie wieder Krieg - The veterans of the two armies to the Peace and Reconciliation Church.'

The current layout of the site displays a powerful evocative force: on the one hand, the ruins recall the tragic nature of the war; on the other, its peaceful and picturesque location recalls its heritage as a place of peace and reconciliation. The parsonage houses the Historical Museum of the Eastern Gothic Line, which preserves a vast collection of historic photographs, war relics and newspapers of the time. The "Museum Trail" departs from the Church of Peace and connects it to the neighbouring Valliano Sanctuary via a pleasant walk through the countryside.
