This fountain commemorates the courageous behaviour of Roermond's women during the Second World War. Children can be seen playing on this fountain, designed by the artist A. Wong. It was unveiled on the 50th anniversary of queen Wilhelmina's reign in 1948.

The monument at Munsterplein (Munstersquare) was offered to Roermond's women by Roermond's men, in memory of their brave attitude during the Second World War. The last months of the war were especially difficult for the women of Roermond. In those months, 3,000 of the city's men were deported to German labour camps.
